In December 2024, a 10-teacher and student delegation from Tokyo City University visited XMUT and were met by Pan Deng, Deputy Secretary of CPC XMUT Committee
The visit is an important part of the 2024 Japan Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science or Sakura Science Exchange Program. Japanese visitors had an enriching experience at XMUT. They attended the welcome ceremony given in their honor, learned about XMUT, toured the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Park and got a close understanding of the innovation and entrepreneurship achievements of XMUT students, and had a hands-on experience in the innovation lab to design and make their own circuit boards. They also saw the one-stop convenience at the student community, held discussions with XMUT students at Student Dorms Simingyuan comparing different modes of pedagogy and education, and varied cultures, customs and traditions between China and Japan. They participated in fun competitions in the gymnasium that enhances mutual friendship, went on a study tour to Yundang Lake and Jimei School Village, impressed with the sound ecological environment of Xiamen, a good case of Xi Jinping's Xiamen practice of ecological civilization. At the graduation ceremony, head of the School of Optoelectronic & Communication Engineering awarded study certificates to Japanese teachers and students
Japan Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science, initiated by Japan, aims at building a platform for Asian youth exchange and collaboration in science and technology through the close collaboration of industry-academia-government. It has invited Chinese college and school students as well as young teachers for short-term (1-3 weeks)visits to Japan to exchange in science and technology. In 2018, School of Optoelectronic & Communication Engineering and Tokyo City University jointly launched the exchange program. It has been in operation for seven consecutive years since then, effectively promoting the exchanges and cooperation between Chinese and Japanese youth.
