Recently, the results of the 2025 China Membrane Industry Association Science and Technology Award were announced. The achievement titled "Key Technology R&D and Industrialization of Intelligent Full-Quantity Treatment for High-Concentration Wastewater" — led by Professor Yan Bin from the Membrane Technology R&D and Application Team, with the participation of faculty members Ye Qian, Xu Meilan, and Xu Su — was awarded the first prize.
The project has efficiently removed total nitrogen and heavy metals from high-concentration wastewater, such as landfill leachate, by pioneering the use of redox mediator materials. It also conducted in-depth investigation, assessment, and source tracing of wastewater in multi-pollutant areas, providing solid data support for synergistic pollutant removal technologies. Furthermore, innovative optimizations were made to the core components of DTRO. These efforts culminated in the development of key technologies for the intelligent treatment of high-concentration wastewater, achieving high-efficiency, low-cost, full-quantity treatment. The project's outcomes have delivered significant social, economic, and ecological benefits. It has been implemented in engineering projects at 21 landfill sites across 14 provinces in China, treating 3 million tons of high-concentration wastewater like landfill leachate annually and reducing nearly 20,000 tons of organic and inorganic pollutants each year, with cumulative sales revenue having surpassed 500 million yuan over the past three years. This provides robust technical support for China's efforts in treating high-concentration wastewater. This achievement signifies that XMUT has reached an internationally leading level in the field of special separation membrane technology, further elevating its societal impact.
It is reported that the China Membrane Industry Association is a national-level industry association. The China Membrane Industry Association Science and Technology Award, approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, is the highest accolade in the country’s membrane separation sector, to honor individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to technological innovation and scientific advancement. The selection results must be submitted to the Ministry of Science and Technology for the record and are recommended by the association for the National Science and Technology Award.
