A 3-week program entitled “Chinese Culture Immersion” was recently co-hosted in Xiamen by School of Design & Arts at XMUT and Nanyang Academy of Arts at Singapore University of the Arts. 31 students and teachers from Nanyang Academy of Arts came to Xiamen and had an immersive experience of Chinese culture in this three-week study.
Students and teachers from these two institutions of art studied together about Chinese traditional painting, intangible cultural heritage, folk art, traditional architecture and other aspects of Chinese culture. They had hands-on practice of Chinese cultural skills in traditional Chinese painting, bead embroidery and wax printing, and had study tours in renowned cultural sites of Jimei Aoyuan Garden, Gulangyu Pearl Embroidery Workshop, the Red Dot Museum, and Silver-Tin Carving Workshop.
This Xiamen-based culture and arts education program has been co-organized by these two partner institutions, and implemented on an annual basis since its first session in 2016. Singaporean students in the Program gain a better understanding of traditional Chinese culture and greater interest and passion for learning. Moreover, the Program contributes to Xiamen's strategic growth to a pivot city on the Maritime Silk Road, and enhances the cultural exchanges between Chinese and Singaporean people as well as the educational cooperation between China and Singapore.
