Deputy Head of Leading Group on Tan Kah Kee Scholarships Visits XMUT

Tan Kah Kee Scholarships officials visited XMUT on November 6, headed by He Xiuzhen, executive deputy director of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Xiamen Municipal Committee and deputy head of the Leading Group on Tan Kah Kee Scholarships, and He Fulong, chairman of Tan Kah Kee Foundation. They were warmly received by President Zhu Wenzhang and President Assistant Chen Li'an as well as executives of Office of International Cooperation & Exchanges (OICE),Student Affairs Department,Academic Affairs Department and International College.

President Zhu thanked Tan Kah Kee Foundation for effective support of XMUT’s educational exchanges with the countries along the Belt and Road and observed that the Tan Kah Kee scholarships has won high praise from overseas Chinese and helped expand the influence of the Tan Kah Kee Foundation and the spirit of Tan Kah Kee. President Assistant Chen Li'an confirmed that XMUT will continue to provide quality education and attract more prospective overseas students to XMUT in accordance with the criteria set in the the Tan Kah Kee scholarships Charter. Executives of International College, OICE, and Student Affairs Department introduced the performance and development of the Tan Kah Kee Scholarships students at XMUT and had a discussion with the Tan Kah Kee Scholarships visitors.

He Xiuzhen pointed out that the Tan Kah Kee Scholarships is an important issue of the Belt and Road construction of Xiamen, which carries the hope of Xiamen to promote more extensive cooperation with the countries along the Belt and Road and built Tan Kah Kee Foundation into a platform for students from countries along the Belt and Road to have communication and cooperation among students and with teachers. He Fulong commended XMUT’s efforts in recruiting and training Tan Kah Kee Scholarships students, and proposed a Seven Universities Alliance to upgrade the quality of enrollment and better provide for student management.

Tan Kah Kee Scholarships was established in 2017 to provide financial support to Chinese and non-Chinese youth pursuing study in Xiamen who are either descendants of overseas Chinese, descendants of Chinese with foreign nationality or descendants of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan alumni of Jimei Schools. It has granted scholarships to 514 eligible young people studying in Xiamen.

XMUT has 83 of the Tan Kah Kee Scholarships-funded students, obtaining a total of 5.44 million RMB of the scholarship. 63 of them are current undergraduates of XMUT from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Laos and Vietnam. XMUT will recruit Tan Kah Kee Scholarships undergraduate and graduate students in 2019. (By OICE)
