XMUT inaugurates exchange arrangement with the U.K.’s Coventry University

Under this arrangement Coventry University will provide 3-5 scholarships annually for XMUT students to study in the UK, and the first selection of students is currently underway. In addition, XMUT will receive exchange visits from students and scholars of Coventry University.

 

One such visit is currently under way. Led by Coventry University’s Professor Ramzy Abdel-Gayed, the delegation of 8 students arrived on April 7th and will stay for 2 weeks. They were welcomed by XMUT’s Professor Chen Li’an, Assistant to the President and Mr.Lin Hong Wei, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, who then met with Professor Ramzy to discuss the two universities’ future cooperation in offering “2+2” and “3+1” joint degrees in the field of automotive engineering, as well as related matters of staff training and professional development.

 

Dr. Ramzy, who is an expert on vehicle manufacture, will present two lectures to our students. In addition, the visitors will have a chance join in with the activities of XMUT’s Automobile Racing Club, and to enjoy classes in various aspects of traditional Chinese culture, including Tai Chi and calligraphy. They will also have a chance to go on a field trip to Xiamen King Long United Automotive Industry Company to learn about the largest local automotive manufacture and to visit the homes of some of our students to get a taste of what family life is like in China.

 

Coventry University ranked 33rd overall in the “Guardian” newspaper’s rankings of UK universities, and was ranked 1st for engineering. The city of Coventry is famous as a centre of car manufacture, and famous companies such as Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, and Peugeot have manufacturing or R&D bases there. Coventry University’s Department of Engineering continues to have a very close working relationship with major manufacturers.
